Lighthouses provide a guidance for safe passage to sailors and nearby land. They are traditionally seen as a symbol of security and hope. This painting was a multi step process, with the dramatic sky and water done in a fluid pour technique to create movement and visual texture with the flow of the paint, then later the lighthouse was hand painted. The controlled pour of the sky and water lends to the uncertainty of the weather out at sea. The deliberate controlled brush strokes for the lighthouse add to the symbolism of a lighouse being able to weather the storms and guide the sailor home with certainty,
